Let’s deck the halls! With handmade crochet and knitted projects. I don’t know about you but the pieces that I have crafted for Christmas are among my favourite decorations and it wouldn’t feel the same without them. I love that I am able to craft a bit of holiday magic with every stitch and that it makes my house feel like a home. In my last post, I shared my favourite crochet ornaments, with many based on my favourite holiday movies. In this post, I’m sharing my favourite crochet and knitted Christmas patterns, including stockings, pillow covers, and a garland. As you will see, these are some of my most treasured creations and I hope you will find something that sparks creativity and cheer. Stockings:
In my last post, I shared that I created ornaments of my two cats and that they get a prime spot on the Christmas tree every year. Therefore, you will no be surprised to know that I have also crocheted them their own Christmas stockings. Shaped like a cat paw, it is a delightful and whimsy pattern that I just loved to create. I made one of the ornament a gingerbread fish following the original pattern and created a gingerbread mouse for the second. I am so pleased with them and cannot wait to fill them with catnip toys for Christmas morning.
Next up are the stockings for the (human) members of my family. These are probably my favourite things I have crocheted and they count among some of my most treasured possessions. I searched for a long time to find a stocking pattern that I like and completely fell in love when I came across the one by Vincent Williams. I loved the traditional red, mixed with the fair isle style and the reindeer design. I love that this pattern has a knitted look even though it is crochet. I am not a very good knitter and I don’t have the skills to craft a sock, so crocheting that looks like knitting is perfect for me.
I was so inspired by this stocking, that I created one for each member of my family. Instead of Prancer, I adapted deer designs to match my family and I am just so pleased with the result. They bring me so much joy every year and I just love to stare at them. For my next project, I would love to create a tree skirt inspired by this set to complete my collection.
Pillow Covers:
Now, I told you that I’m not a very good knitter and that is because I’ve only succeeded in knitting flat things. And I can’t make any mistakes because I have no idea how to fix them. But as you have seen above, I just love the traditional style of a fair isle knitted design. Therefore, I tried my hand at these two patterns and I am quite pleased with the results. I love the classic red and white which just means Christmas for me. I also love the whimsy snowman pillow and since it has a winter theme, I love to keep it out after the holidays so my house isn’t so sad after the Christmas undecorating.
Lastly, I crocheted this cute little garland made up of gingerbread man appliqués. This one is quick and fun to make and goes perfectly with my other gingerbread decor. I believe these were among the first crochet projects I have done, so these are great if you are just learning this craft.
