If you caught my previous post<\/a> about my love of crocheting doilies, you will not be surprised to read they are one of my favourite things to craft. I\u2019m always on the lookout for new patterns and I especially love decorating my house with them. I just love how cozy and unique homemade items can help make your house a home. Since I am obsessed with the holidays, you will also not be surprised that I have made several seasonal doilies. Since Halloween is just around the corner, let me show you my favourite ones.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Pattern: Cobwebs<\/a> by Julia Hart<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Cobwebs by Julia Hart is probably my favourite Halloween doily. I loved being able to create webs and spiders and it is absolutely perfect for the spooky season. Hart is such a talented doily designer and I have made several of her patterns. They are always very clear and pictures of every round and of challenging stitches are provided to make crocheting a breeze. This pattern links squares of webs and spiders together to create a table runner, so technically you could make it as long or as short as you wish.<\/p>\n\n\n

Pattern: Spooky Soiree<\/a> by Julia Hart<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Spooky Soiree is another pattern created by Julia Hart that is gorgeous and so fun to crochet. In several of her patterns, she uses front and back loop stitches to create fantastic depth and texture. The variety of stitches also means that the doilies are never boring or tedious to make. I just love the classic look of this one with the candy corn pop, but if you don\u2019t, the pattern also comes with instructions to craft tiny ghosts or skulls instead. Finally, I just love all the hidden treasures in this doily, have you spotted the cats? And the bats?<\/p>\n\n\n

Next is my black cat doily. If you don\u2019t know already, I\u2019m obsessed with cats and have a black cat, so when I came across a kitty doily picture on Pinterest, I had to make it in black and orange. I searched and searched to find a pattern but was unfortunately unsuccessful. However, using the filet technique, I did manage to recreate the doily based on the online picture and I am pretty pleased with the results.<\/p>\n\n\n

Free Pattern: Boo!<\/a> by Marsha Glassner <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

I think Boo! by Marsha Glassner is a classic and it is delightful. I believe this is one of the first doilies I ever made, so it is a great one if you are just starting out. I made mine in white with an orange border, but I think I will eventually make another one in a more neutral colour to display all year long with my skull doily<\/a>. Boo! is fun, whimsical, and perfectly spooky.<\/p>\n\n\n

Free Pattern: Skulduggery Doily<\/a> by Kathryn White<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Skulduggery Doily by Kathryn White was also among the first doilies I ever made. I remember it being so fun and that I could tell when I created the nostrils, teeth, and the eyes of the skulls. This is a great free pattern that would look good in many different shades.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

Free Pattern: Friendly Ghosts Doily<\/a> by Cylinda D. Mathews<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

This doily is based on a pattern called Friendly Ghosts Doily by Cylinda D. Mathews. Her original pattern is beautiful, so fun, and way better than how my doily turned out. I love the pineapple pattern that was created and the contrast between the black and orange. But even better, the original pattern includes how to make a series of little ghosts that adorn the outside of the doily and they are decorated with googly eyes! I unfortunately experimented with the type of yarn I had and my ghosts did not turn out like I wanted, so I kept the doily and added different ghosts. I love the doily but I don\u2019t love my ghosts and might find something better to replace them in the future. In the meantime, do check out Mathews\u2019 original pattern, it is really great.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
